MK 1: 12-15 "The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days ... " The practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving can help us emulate Christ, grow our faith, and bring us closer to living out our Baptismal promises, thus gaining the graces that come through living as faithful children of God.

GN 9: 8-15  "I will establish my covenant with you ... " God continues to keep His word in terms of accepting us and caring for us.  What causes us to not hold up our end of the bargain?

IS 43:18-25 "Remember not the events of the past..." God is more concerned with what is ahead of us than what is behind us.  But, in order to make right decisions in the future, we need to recognize what causes us to do right things and wrong things.  That takes prayer and reflection - the main purpose of the season of Lent.

MK 2: 1-12 ""Why does this man speak that way?  He is blaspheming.  Who but God alone can forgive sins?" For the third week in a row, Jesus exercises His authority, which is questioned by those observing Jesus' actions.  Why do they question His authority?  The same reason people question Jesus' authority today.

MK 1: 40-45 " ... show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed;" When seeking forgiveness, we need to exercise public admission and seek reparation from all who are harmed (our community.)  When being sought out to give forgiveness, we need to imitate Christ and grant that forgiveness.  And when we notice others who are suffering from sin but have not yet acknowledged or sought forgiveness, we owe it to them to bring their attention to the reality of God's sovereignty and help them seek the forgiveness and healing they need.

MK 1:40-45 "... so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly." We can't be stopped by fear in our calling to be Christ to our world.

MK 1: 21-28 "...he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes..." A most important message on authority and our right to religious freedom in light of the recent mandate imposed from the U.S. govt's dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS).  It's time to stand up and take action for what you believe in.
